Are you at risk from impaired bone health?

Many health conditions and some long term medications can cause poor bone health.

​

If any of these apply to you or a family member, an EchoS REMS bone health assessment is appropriate:

​

  • being female

  • being "perimenopausal" (mid-40 to mid-50 years of age)

  • having a fracture after 50 yrs of age

  • having a parent who has osteoporosis or who has had a hip fracture

  • early menopause (before the age of 45, either naturally or surgically)

  • smoker

  • heavy drinker

  • low testosterone (men)

  • taking steroid medication

  • rheumatoid arthritis

  • thyroid disease

  • chronic liver disease

  • chronic kidney disease

  • diabetes

  • malabsorption of food issues (Crohn's, ulcerative colitis, coeliac disease etc)

  • dairy-free diets without calcium from other food sources

  • past or present eating disorder

  • sedentary lifestyle

  • low body weight or small stature

  • no periods for 6+ months

  • some medications such as proton pump inhibitors
